My approach to therapy
Welcome to Kirsty-therapy. Discover how my psychodynamic approach, grounded in the Conversational Model, can support your journey towards healing and well-being. I'm here to provide a safe, empathetic, and client-led space for you to explore your challenges.

A foundation of empathy and presence
My therapeutic approach is rooted in psychodynamic psychotherapy, specifically the Conversational Model. This means I offer a deeply empathetic, self-compassionate, and client-centred experience. You are in the lead of your therapy, and I am here to walk alongside you, present and attuned to your needs. My training includes a Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapy from AUT, and I am currently undertaking further psychotherapy training through the Australia and New Zealand Association of Psychotherapy (ANZAP).

A unique therapeutic journey
With 29 years of experience as an occupational therapist in both New Zealand and Britain, coupled with extensive volunteer work for Youthline and an LGBTQ+ helpline, I bring a wealth of diverse experience to my practice. My training in Focusing, a method developed by Gene Gendlin, further enhances my ability to help clients connect with their inner experiences. As a registered occupational therapist with an active Annual Practicing Certificate (ACP) and a trainee member of Australia and New Zealand Association of Psychotherapy, I am committed to ethical and effective practice.
Who thrives with this approach?
My psychodynamic and client-led approach is particularly beneficial for adults navigating challenges such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and difficulties with coming out or relationship issues. It also offers significant support for those dealing with long term physical health problems, stress, burnout, and grief and loss. If you are experiencing these challenges and seeking a supportive, empathetic, and present therapist, you will likely find great benefit in working with me.
